Tanknology Introduces TankCam ® Remote Video Inspection System
Austin, TX – Underground Storage Tank operators are often posed with the challenge of having to identify problems that might exist inside their underground storage tanks (USTs). Whether it’s identifying potential structural issues, locating an unused riser, verifying that their overfill protection is intact, or simply determining the cleanliness of their tanks, the solution has always been to excavate and inspect the tank from within. In response to the growing market need for a safe and economical solution to this problem, Tanknology Inc., of Austin, TX, is introducing TankCam®, a remote video system that gives operators a clear and thorough look inside their USTs. According to Allen Porter, President and CEO of Tanknology, this quick and economical look can save operators a substantial amount of money compared to the alternatives. “We have a large number of customers with tank sites that have been in operation for years. As the tanks advance in age, it’s not uncommon for issues to develop inside. Corrosion can occur, as well as occasional structural issues like blistering or de-lamination, and it’s very difficult to know what you’re dealing with,” Porter said. “Our new TankCam system allows them to get a good clear picture of what’s happening inside their tanks so that they can make informed decisions about their next steps.” Through the course of the development of the TankCam system, more than 1,000 tanks have been successfully inspected. Patents on the system are currently pending. In addition to an examination of potential structural issues, TankCam is also an ideal solution for situations like: “In many cases, the issues we’re exposing and clarifying with the TankCam simply were not found in the past without expensive site excavation,” Porter said. “Now, operators can get a very cost-effective, detailed picture of what’s happening underground so that they can choose the best course of action.” The TankCam system is a new addition to remote camera inspection options offered by Tanknology. Tanknology’s PetroScope® system, which provides a higher resolution, more thorough analysis of a tank interior, has been available for many years. “With the addition of TankCam, Tanknology offers the most complete range of camera inspection options in the industry. Porter differentiated the two approaches this way: “The TankCam™ is used like a medical x-ray – it gives you a good snapshot of the essentials and tells you whether you have issues requiring more detailed exploration,” he said. “PetroScope, like an MRI, would provide you that finer level of detail and a thorough professional report on all findings.” “Customers looking for a clear look at the condition inside their tanks so that they know whether they have issues they need to address will find TankCam a very cost effective way of providing it,” Porter said. More information about the TankCam system can be found here. Based in Austin, Texas, Tanknology operates across Americaand around the world, providing environmental compliance testing and related services at more than 50,000 petroleum fueling and storage facilities per year, for more than 3,000 customers. Tanknology Celebrates 25 Years
Austin, TX – It was 25-years ago – in 1988 – that US EPA regulation 40-CFR-280 came into force. It was a landmark environmental regulation, which established the first federal requirements for protection of virtually all underground storage tank fueling facilities such as gas stations. That set of regulations, crafted and implemented during the Reagan Administration, forever changed the fuel dispensing industry in the US. The rules established minimum federal requirements for tank tightness verification and ongoing monitoring, spill and overfill protection, corrosion protection and monitoring, and demonstration of financial responsibilities. Then the states and municipalities got involved, some of which established higher standards than the federal minimums. In response to the new rules, an industry focused on the testing, verification, installation and service of UST environmental compliance systems was born. Large operators of gas stations across the country, primarily major oil companies, needed help navigating the varying state and local requirements and ensuring that their facilities were in compliance. Enter Tanknology. From that very first year when the regulations were implemented, Tanknology positioned itself as the full-service provider of environmental compliance solutions for UST operators. In 2013, a quarter-century later, the company celebrates its 25th anniversary as the dominant nationwide player in that industry. “From the very beginning, the vision for Tanknology was to create a single company with the capability of managing all environmental compliance issues for UST fueling facilities,” said Allen Porter, President and Chief Executive Officer of Tanknology. “There were tank testers, leak detection providers, corrosion protection companies – lots of small companies all across the country, who were providing one or two of the required services,” Porter said. “But larger operators, with facilities in many states, needed a single provider to put it all together in a comprehensive program, with proven, state-of-the-art technologies that ensured they were in compliance with the myriad regulations governing their sites.” That’s what Tanknology set out to do 25 years ago – and the company today stands alone in its position as the only nationwide provider of comprehensive UST compliance services. Internationally, Tanknology is the largest provider of such services in the world, teaming with more than 20 international licensee partners, serving the largest oil companies in the world. Porter attributes the company’s long term success to several key factors. First-and-foremost are the people. “We have the most qualified and experienced professionals in the business on our team – from the inventors of our proprietary technologies, to our regional operations specialists, to our highly trained and experienced team of field technicians,” Porter said. “What makes Tanknology an enduring partner with thousands of customers over these 25 years really is this unparalleled team of people.” Another key factor to the company’s success, according to Porter, has been its ability to adapt and respond to the changing regulatory environment with innovative new services. “This compliance industry has changed substantially since it was created 25 years ago,” Porter said. “As regulations were further implemented at state and local levels and then expanded in the succeeding years, we invested millions of dollars in new technologies and services. We knew that the key to staying on top in this industry was to continue to provide all the compliance services needed by our customers.” In the succeeding years, Tanknology developed and launched services for pipe testing, cathodic protection monitoring, remote visual internal tank inspections, spill bucket testing, tank deflection testing, fuel filtration, ethanol preparation, Stage I and II vapor recovery, Aboveground Tank inspections and testing, Class B and C operator training, and many more – all the way up to comprehensive Compliance Management Services, in which Tanknology manages every aspect of a customer’s compliance program. Based in Austin, Texas, Tanknology operates across America and around the world, providing UST environmental compliance testing and related services at more than 50,000 sites per year, for more than 3,000 customers. Internationally, Tanknology licensees span more than 25 countries, providing services to the largest petroleum operators in the world. For more information visit www.Tanknology.com.

Tanknology Assisting UST Site Operators Impacted by Superstorm Sandy
Austin, TX – As conditions permit, owners and operators of gas stations and other fueling facilities on the Eastern Seaboard are assessing the impact to their sites from Superstorm Sandy. What exactly they need to do to get their facility back into operation will vary widely, depending upon the type and severity of damage they sustained. One thing is certain: Given fuel shortages and the pressing need to clean up and get back into business, it can’t happen fast enough. “We are beginning to hear from customers in the Northeast who are evaluating how to get their sites operational,” said Allen Porter, President and CEO of Tanknology Inc., the world’s largest Underground Storage Tank environmental services company. “Fortunately, in a lot of cases, visual inspections and a manual tightness test with their automatic tank gauge is all that is necessary. But there are also plenty of situations where considerably more assessment and repair is necessary.” Tanknology has set up a web page devoted to helping operators determine what they need to do based upon the type of impact on their site. The situations addressed on this informational page range from merely loss of power to minimal flooding to running out of fuel and all the way up to cases of severe flooding. Also included are links to various state and federal agencies which can provide resources or additional support. “A few years ago, we provided assistance to the EPA in their creation of a publication addressing this very issue,” Porter said. Titled Underground Storage Tank Flood Guide, it’s an excellent resource for operators facing damage from a storm like Sandy.” Porter said the guide is available for download on Tanknology’s website. “For some operators, the recovery process is just beginning and will take weeks or months to work through,” Porter said. “But for many more, given the fuel shortages and high demand of the recovery and rebuilding period, there are only a few steps required to get back in operation – and that obviously can’t happen soon enough.” Porter noted that the company has considerable experience in major storm recovery over its near-25-year history. “We have offices throughout the country, and have helped our customers recover from many large storms over the years,” Porter said. “We are now gearing up to help many of them through aftermath of Sandy.” For more detailed information about major storm recovery for a UST facility, visit Tanknology’s web page devoted to the topic at www.tanknology.com/StormRecovery. Tanknology Releases Version 7 of the PetroScope® Remote Controlled Internal Tank Inspection System
Austin, TX – Tanknology Inc. announced today the release of a new PetroScope Version 7 camera. The new PetroScope system has been released to meet current demands for internal inspections of USTs both in the USA and abroad. The Tanknology PetroScope Version 7 (V7) was developed with cost effective key improvements and quality features that are synonymous with the Tanknology brand. The new PetroScopeV7 uses the best block camera on the market, combining superb picture quality and extremely powerful zooming capabilities, allowing users to zoom in on small or distant objects with exceptional clarity and stability. The latest model brings significant improvement in the near focus ability, extended zoom and reduced illumination needs. The new PetroScopeV7 comes with 432X Zoom (36x optical and 12x digital), which is a major improvement from the current camera in use that has 300X Zoom (25x optical and 12x digital). It requires a minimum of 0.1 lux illumination and can focus on items as close as 10mm (0.4″) versus the older model requiring 2.5 lux and needing 35mm (1.4″) in distance to focus. Another key improvement worth mentioning in the PetroScope camera is the outer casing. The outer casing now slides off the stem improving access to the motors, lights, wiring, oxygen sensor, and thermal sensors when maintenance is required. Previously, the unit had to be taken apart, one section at a time to perform maintenance and/or troubleshooting. The PetroScopeV7 also has reinforced internal rods to increase durability and stability. Some other minor improvements in the PetroScopeV7 system include: PetroScopeV7 is the cornerstone of Tanknology’s Four Phase Tank Assessment that provides an accurate and economical assessment of a tanks condition – all without the risks of manned entry. The system’s highly dependable ultrasonic probes are installed in thousands of tanks in the US and Europe. The system, which comes in two different size configurations, is PC-based, and runs on a standard Windows-based computer. This allows it to run on a computer which typically is already in use at the facility. According to Porter, at a typical fueling facility, a Tanknology installation crew will generally complete a new Simmons ATG system installation in a single day. For more information about purchasing a Simmons ATG system, contact Simmons at (800) 848-8378 toll-free in the US or (972) 497-9002 from outside the country, or visit the company on the web at simmons-corp.com.
